The Kanza Kinship System
KANZA KINSHIP FOR MALES
Below is a chart showing the male-oriented model for the Kanza kinship system. The chart covers five generations of family, and each generation is grouped underneath a heading showing the name for the members in English. Thus, the top level is the generation of what English speakers would consider grandparents, great uncles, and great aunts. The bottom level is the generation of what English speakers would consider grandchildren, great nephews, great nieces, and third cousins. Remember that all relations considered elder brother/sister or younger brother/sister really depend on how much older or younger that person is in relation to self. For these, we will simply use the elder term, but be aware that the younger term may be better suited in certain cases.
