A QUICK COURSE IN KANZA (2007)

Synopsis: Short introduction to the Kanza language, presented as either guided or independant study.
Comments: This document is essentially a web-based version of Student Study Guide Level I with pronunciations.

KANZA VOCABULARY (2004)

Synopsis: 800-word talking dictionary grouped by theme.
Comments: This document is essentially a web-based version of A Practical Kanza Vocabulary with pronunciations.

  • SPELLING SYSTEM - The spellings do not reflect the most recent changes to the practical spelling system, but a conversion guide is available.
  • MULTIMEDIA - Groups of words are pronounced in list form. The sound files can be opened within the page or saved.
  • LARGE FILE SIZE - Due to the enormity of the sound files, the pages load very slowly. Failure to allow page to load completely can result in errors.
  • INCOMPLETE EDITING - This document contains several text errors and unexpected character swapping due to the incompatibility of certain Kanza letters with web text, but this does not affect the pronunciation.

ROBERT L. RANKIN'S KANSA FIELD RECORDINGS 1974-1979

Synopsis: The most comprehensive body of Kanza language recording on Earth!
Comments: Recorded in the 1970s, this multivolume set includes 60+ hours of field interviews with three of the last fluent Kanza speakers, especially Maude Rowe.

  • INDESPENSIBLE - Nearly all that is known of the Kanza language today is covered in detail in the field reordings.
  • TWO FORMATS - The complete set is available as 60 audio CDs or a single CD-ROM containing organized .mp3 copies of all the CD tracks.
  • ARCHIVED - The complete set is carefully archived and accessible for on-site study. Contact us for details.

Wajphanyin: A Kanza Language Game

Copies of this original board game are for sale for $20 to tribal members and $25 to others, plus $7 shipping (applicable to each copy of the game). Play aids are available for free download below or can be ordered via the mail. Prices for aids are as follows: $1.50 for each CD-ROM of all expansion packs, backs, scoresheets, and booklet .pdf files; $1.50 for each booklet hard copy. Click here for a downloadable order form. Shipping costs will be waived if items are picked up from the Language Department offices in Kaw City, OK. Please hurry: Supplies are limited. Game and play aids were made possible through a grant to the Kaw Nation from the Endangered Language Fund's "Native Voices Endowment: A Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Legacy Project."
